What was your first Bitcoin price?

Every Bitcoiner remembers their entry point. For some, it was in the early days when Bitcoin was almost worthless, for others it was during the big bull runs above $20,000 or even $50,000. This poll lets us see the history of adoption through the price levels where hodlers first got in.

The early days: from fractions of a cent to Pizza Day

When Bitcoin launched in 2009, it had no official market price. Early miners traded coins privately, sometimes for fractions of a cent. The first widely recognized transaction was on May 22, 2010 — now known as Bitcoin Pizza Day. Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas. At the time, those coins were worth roughly $41, which means each Bitcoin was valued at less than $0.01. Today, the same amount would be worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Price milestones over the years

  • 2011: Bitcoin first reached parity with the US dollar at $1. Later that year, it briefly touched $30 before falling back.
  • 2013: The price broke through $100 and later surged over $1,000 for the first time.
  • 2017: The famous bull run took BTC close to $20,000, capturing global attention.
  • 2020–2021: Another cycle saw Bitcoin break $50,000 and hit all-time highs near $69,000.
  • Today: Millions of new hodlers are entering at price points that early adopters never imagined.

Why your first price matters

Whether you bought under $100 or over $50,000, every satoshi counts. This poll shows how diverse the Bitcoin community is: some are OGs from the early days, others are newcomers stacking sats for the future. Over time, the average entry price of hodlers reflects the growing mainstream adoption of Bitcoin as both digital gold and global money.

Tip: Don’t worry about “buying late.” Every cycle has people who thought they missed out — yet Bitcoin continues to surprise. The best time to start was yesterday; the second-best time is today.
